My smart casual outfit

My version of a smart casual outfit.

Generally most days I want a smart casual outfit for university, smart because I want to look presentable and professional when surrounded with my fellow journalists and lecturers but also casual so that I am comfortable for a long day of lectures and seminars. Theres nothing worse than being stuck in a lecture with a tight dress or uncomfortable trousers on because the seats are miniature and there is zero leg room. So i found with this outfit I found a good balance between the two.

This coat is so versatile, in the picture above it shows me wearing the coat buttoned and tied up. Which adds that side of sophistication and maybe a little bit of mystery! I could be wearing my pyjama top underneath this and no one would ever know!!

As you can see I'm very small and I would fit right in at a santas grotto as an elf.

I haven't worn these black boots since last autumn/winter but I got them out of the back of my wardrobe to keep my feet warm. They are black suede so they get very dirty easily but are effortless to clean, I love that I can wear them with either black jeans or black tights and they just blend into the shoes which gives me more height and i definitely need more height being the little girl I am at a height of 5'1. I paired this cute pair of booties with a high waisted denim skirt, this denim skirt is a deep blue denim and is tight at the waist and has an A line cut. I added a black woven leather  belt around the top of my skirt this allowed me to pull in the waist of my skirt tighter as occasionally my weight fluctuates meaning I could lose weight or put it on and the skirt would no longer fit me correctly. I like simplististic outfits and don't generally wear a lot of colour so this plain long sleeved top was perfect to go under neath my sleeveless navy blue coat. The turtle neck on this top is very slim, I like this because the thin material doesn't make me feel claustrophobic or too warm in this cold then hot weather that we get in autumn. I finished this outfit off with a faux alligator skin clutch bag, usually people would only use a clutch if they were going on a night out but I think that it works just as well in the day, with all the dark colours within the outfit the bag although it is black separates  the dark colours and adds a pop to the outfit.

First blog post

First blog post

I can't believe that i have been at university a month already. It seems only yesterday i was packing up my belongings and saying goodbye to all my family. Since leaving home and having to do everything for myself i have achieved so much. You could say I've become more grown up because now i have to fend for myself and i no longer have  my mum or dad to hold my hand every step of the way. The first week I  got here went past in a blur, considering it was only three weeks ago i can hardly remember what actually happened. One of the highlights of my freshers experience was not going to Oceana for the first time(even tho the disco room is a right laugh) but it was bagging myself a job at the designer fashion and furniture shop Laura Ashley. When applying  for the job they asked me to do a maths test in which i was thinking to myself well I'm not gonna get this job now when they look at my maths skills they'll think I'm a bloody idiot but i passed the maths test and i have been working there since, even have my own name badge and uniform!.

Another highlight of my first week was meeting the lovely Kat who has since become my rock at university and the person i thoroughly  miss when she goes home for a weekend . A swell as kat, a group of girls from my course have also been very supported in times when i have been very homesick. They are the wonderful Saffy Uddin and my  fellow brummy lass Miss Chloé Cordell. Me and Chloe are able to speak to each other in what seems a foreign language to people from Southampton but its only our brummy accent!.

Knowing that i can't go home for 4 months is very hard thing to deal with emotionally and physically. There have been many times when i have wanted to just quit and go back to my little town but then i think to myself for so long i wanted to get out of that town and away from the people there so why would i want to go back and be stuck there with nothing to do. When  you stay in Droitwich after college and you don't go to university it means you will  never bloody leave the place. I always say the town is just like the one in the film Hot Fuzz without the murderous grannys that is but there is diddly squat to do!. The next time i go home will be around christmas time and i will have  whole week of spending time with my family and friends and seeing my beloved Tallulah ( my dog) and letting someone else do the washing and cooking for a change. I will also get to spend some much needed time with my boyfriend and his family before he goes into the navy!.

Pretty lights in Southampton City Centre.

Although i am enjoying my course i am finding it to be difficult but of corse all degrees are! I'm not the average student who's goes out every night as id be really grumpy with the lack of sleep and food so i suppose it works out better because i am able to put more time into my degree. When i first got told about my assessments for the course and knowing that i had to juggle 6 assignments all at once didn't half frighten the living day lights out of me but then i released that was exactly what i was doing when carrying out my A levels and i managed to pass all of them (have no idea how).

Me and Kat walking the dreaded walk home from Oceana.

I have to say a massive thanks to Joe,who gave me his shoes and Kat his coat on the much dreaded walk home from an Oceana. The pain of wearing very high heels was too much for me and the coldness of a southampton night was also to much for Kat but bless him he walked home jacket less and barefoot.

I didn't think i would struggle as much as i have done adjusting to uni life but life always takes you by surprise!.  Although i am not able to physically go home and see everyone i keep in contact with my parents and boyfriend everyday and i ring my nan once a week. I had the best time the other week when my mum visited me for two nights, she met my friends and we all went to the student lockdown where i bought quite a few goodies!. The next day we explored the marina and then my mum bought me my swanky new Mac book pro. We then visited a lovely town called Winchester, which reminded very much of my own little town and of corse me and my mum can't go anywhere without going shopping !. I'm looking forward to tomorrow as my boyfriend will be coming down to southy from Worcester to see me and i think  a coco banana waffle from sprinkles is deffo  on the cards.

Me and callum in southampton.
After two weeks of being at university my boyfriend came up to visit me and it was lovely to have him meet my friends and show him around my new home. Of corse we went shopping then went to TGI Fridays for cocktails and food.
